Velvet Citizen

Jake Hull (based in Portland, OR) is an ASCAP composer for film, TV, theater, and chamber works. He received his degree in Music History & Literature from Christopher Newport University. There he studied piano with Dr. Jeffrey Brown as well as composition with Dr. Brian Hulse. It was there at university that Hull, already an obsessive fan of film, took a class on music in Alfred Hitchcock's films. Hull cites the endless hours studying Bernard Herrmann's scores that ignited his passion for the craft of film music.

He began his music career as a multi-instrumentalist and performer, touring with The Last Bison and Jake Clemons (with whom he performed on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno). While staying busy as a performing musician he began collaborating with The Virginia Stage Company, in Norfolk, Virginia. There he would score plays ranging from The Tempest to A Streetcar Named Desire to recently, Oliver Twist. Hull also performed the original score Oliver Twist during the entirety of the show's run. Since composing for film, Hull's agility and diverse background has allowed him the fortune of working in a wide range of genres and formats including narrative and documentary features, animated and narrative shorts, experimental and multi-media projects, as well as continuing to be an active song-writer and producer (Pyrrhic Whim, The Last Bison).
